God Often Places His Greatest Gifts in the Most Ordinary Places
"He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate." — Psalm 104:14
One of the things I love most about herbalism is this simple truth:
Some of God's most incredible creations are growing right beneath our feet.
Yarrow and plantain aren't exotic rainforest plants. They don't require expensive fertilizers or perfect growing conditions. In fact, many people spend all summer trying to pull them out of their yards. Yet for centuries, these two humble plants have been among the most respected herbs in traditional Western herbalism. I think that's beautiful.
It reminds me that God often chooses ordinary things to accomplish extraordinary purposes.
Yarrow: A Plant with a Remarkable History
Long before modern medicine, people looked to the plants around them. Historical records from Europe, Asia, and North America describe yarrow as one of the most valued herbs in traditional herbal practices. Herbalists prepared it in many forms—including teas, infused oils, tinctures, and botanical preparations—depending on the traditions and customs of their communities.
Today, scientists continue studying yarrow's naturally occurring compounds, including flavonoids, sesquiterpene lactones, and antioxidant constituents. Researchers are interested in understanding how these compounds interact within the plant and continue exploring their biological activity. Whether viewed through the lens of history or modern science, yarrow remains one of the most fascinating herbs God created.
Plantain: The Weed with a Story
Plantain may be one of the most overlooked plants in America. To some, it's just another weed. To generations of herbalists, it became one of the most appreciated herbs in the garden. Plantain has been included in traditional herbal preparations for hundreds of years and continues to capture the attention of researchers because of its naturally occurring compounds, including allantoin, aucubin, and a variety of beneficial plant polyphenols.
It reminds us that value isn't always determined by appearance. Sometimes God's greatest gifts grow quietly in unexpected places.
What Does This Teach Us?
There is something deeply encouraging about plants like yarrow and plantain. Neither one is flashy. Neither one demands attention. Yet both have quietly served generations of people who appreciated God's creation. Isn't that how God often works in our own lives?
Faithfulness usually isn't loud. It happens in ordinary moments. Preparing dinner. Helping a neighbor. Serving at church. Praying for a friend. Raising children. Showing up every day.
The world may overlook those moments. God never does.
Why We Chose These Botanicals
Every ingredient in Grace & Restore was selected with intention. Together, they reflect our appreciation for God's creation and the generations of herbal wisdom that have taught us to value the plants He placed around us.
Grapeseed Oil
Pressed from the seeds of grapes, grapeseed oil is prized for its lightweight feel and quick absorption. Naturally rich in linoleic acid, vitamin E, and antioxidant compounds called polyphenols, it has become a favorite ingredient in botanical skincare. Research suggests grapeseed oil helps support the skin's natural moisture barrier and leaves skin feeling soft without a heavy or greasy finish, making it an ideal carrier for herbal-infused oils.
Coconut Oil
For centuries, coconut oil has been used in traditional beauty and personal care practices around the world. Modern research has shown that virgin coconut oil is an effective moisturizer that helps reduce moisture loss by supporting the skin's natural protective barrier. Rich in nourishing fatty acids, it gives botanical salves their smooth texture while helping keep skin feeling soft, conditioned, and cared for.
Yarrow
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) has earned a place among the most respected herbs in traditional Western herbalism. Historical records describe its use in teas, infused oils, tinctures, and botanical preparations across many cultures. Today, researchers continue studying yarrow's naturally occurring flavonoids, sesquiterpene lactones, and antioxidant compounds to better understand their biological activity. While science continues to explore this remarkable plant, its long history reminds us of the incredible diversity God designed within His creation.
Plantain
Often overlooked as an ordinary backyard plant, plantain (Plantago major and Plantago lanceolata) has been appreciated by herbalists for generations. It has traditionally been incorporated into infused oils, herbal preparations, and botanical remedies throughout history. Researchers continue to investigate plantain's naturally occurring compounds—including allantoin, aucubin, and beneficial polyphenols—as they seek to better understand this humble yet fascinating herb.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a naturally occurring antioxidant commonly used in botanical skincare. It helps protect the quality of plant oils while contributing to healthy-looking, conditioned skin. It also helps extend the freshness of handcrafted salves, making it both a practical and nourishing addition to botanical formulations.
Each ingredient tells a story—not only of botanical tradition but of a Creator who filled His world with remarkable plants waiting to be discovered, appreciated, and stewarded with wisdom.
Grace for the Woman Who Gives Everything
If you're reading this, there's a good chance you're the one everyone counts on. The caregiver. The encourager. The planner. The servant. The one who remembers birthdays, brings meals, checks on friends, volunteers at church, and somehow still wonders if you've done enough.
Today, remember this:
Jesus didn't only call us to serve.
He also called the weary to come to Him.
Not after everything was finished.
Now.
Receive His grace.
Rest in His presence.
Then continue serving—not from exhaustion, but from a heart that has been filled by Him.
