it should never be about the scale

It’s not REALLY about the scale. At least it shouldn’t be. There is so much more to being healthy than the number that represents the earth’s gravitational pull on your body. That number that society claims as “healthy” should not be what gets to determine any part of how you feel about yourself. Personally, I know larger built women that are much healthier than some of my skinniest of friends, but society wouldn’t look at them that way.
Wholistic health is defined as, “the human experience of optimal harmony, balance, and function of the interconnected and interdependent unity of the spiritual, physical, mental, and social dimensions.” Health on the other hand is defined as, “the state of being free from illness or injury. A person’s mental OR physical condition.” Everything in our body works together as a whole. Therefore, should we not treat it as such? Does your spiritual outlook not affect your mental state? Does your mental state not directly affect your physical condition? And finally, does your physical condition not affect your mental and spiritual states? It all goes together. We should treat it as such.
Most of you know I suffered with depression and suicidal ideations during Covid-19. My mentality allowed me to not care about what foods I ate which contributed to my poor mental state. I told my holistic dr., “When you want to jump off a bridge, the foods you’re consuming are the least important things on your mind.” His response, “You wouldn’t be as tempted to jump off the bridge if you were eating the right foods for your body,” and he was right. For me personally, white flour carbs and sugar are my demise. They cause me exhaustion, pain, and anger. When I was eating well, I was better equipped mentally and spiritually to deal with everyday challenges. Otherwise, I was eating myself to sleep and/or in so much pain from the inflammation caused by the carbs that I was in too much pain to get out of bed and be able to do things I wanted with my kids.
Healthy should be determined by:
· how you feel in your skin
· being comfortable in your clothes
· measured by how rested and excited you are to wake up to a new day
· how capable you are in doing the things you want to do
· how content you are with where you are in life and what you have
· being open to new challenges without resistance
· confidently accepting God’s grace and love in your life
· having a positive outlook on life in general
· being able to fully love others with healthy boundaries
· whether you can get up physically without grunting 😊
Nothing good comes from not taking the time to take care of yourself. The better you feel overall, the more good you have to give. There is no better way to serve others than that. Trust that you are worth the investment. Put in the work. Treat yourself as a whole rather than in parts and watch everything around you work towards your best interests.
